Each year, the 91ÊÓƵAlumni Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of our most remarkable alumni. This year, our 2025 International Alum of the Year award finalists are shining examples of leaders in the areas of healthcare and international diplomacy.
Dr Guozhi (George) Zhang (PhB '15, MChD '19)
Dr. George Zhang is a dedicated rural doctor in western NSW, delivering vital healthcare to one of Australia’s most remote communities. As the town's resident doctor and its first permanent practitioner in over a decade, he addresses critical medical needs with unwavering commitment. A former international student at ANU, George has built an impressive career as both a practitioner and researcher, advancing radiological procedures and chronic disease management. He remains closely connected to ANU, mentoring future healthcare professionals as a lecturer and tutor.
Dr Carmen Robledo (PhD '18)
Dr Carmen Robledo is a distinguished diplomat who has dedicated nearly two decades to advancing international diplomacy and fostering global cooperation. As Mexico's Middle East Expert at the UN Security Council (2021–2022), she led critical negotiations on issues including the Middle East Peace Process (Israel-Palestine), Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iraq, culminating in the adoption of pivotal UN Security Council statements that advanced humanitarian initiatives despite the ongoing conflict. Her PhD at ANU, focusing on middle powers in global governance, shaped her strategic insights and commitment to multilateralism. A mentor and active participant in 91ÊÓƵalumni initiatives, Dr Robledo exemplifies the University’s values of excellence and global impact.
